A working meeting of members of the Socialist International Committee for the CIS, Caucasus and Black Sea was held in Chisinau, Moldova, on 6 February 2017, hosted by the Democratic Party of Moldova, DPM.
ARF-D was represented by ARF-D Bureau’s political representative Armen Rustamyan who also serves as the co-chair of SI Committee for the CIS, Caucasus and Black Sea, and ARF-D Bureau member, head of the party’s International Secretariat Giro Manoyan.
The meeting was presided over by co-chairs Armen Rustamyan and Alexandra Dobolyi (Hungary). Welcoming remarks were delivered by Vlad Plahotoniuc leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova. DPM honorary President, former Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova, Dumitru Diacov also took part in the meeting.
The Committee’s meeting was held to focus on the political context in the region in advance of the XXV SI Congress, and to hear the contributions from SI member parties to the resolutions to be adopted at the Congress. It also offered the opportunity for updates on the situation in countries in the region.
On behalf of ARF-D Armen Rustamyan presented the latest political developments in Armenia: from the reforms of the Constitution and of the respective electoral law to the upcoming parliamentary elections and the role of ARF-D in all these processes.
The Socialist International is the worldwide organization of social democratic, socialist and labor parties. It currently brings together 170 political parties and organizations from almost 140 countries.
In 2003, ARF-D was the first one among CIS political parties, to hold a SI full membership status.
ARF-D Bureau member, Mario Nalpatian serves as SI Vice-President while ARF-D Bureau member Armen Rustamyan is Co-Chairman of the Committee for the CIS, the Caucasus and the Black Sea. ARF-D is also a member of the Statutory Committee on Finance and Administration of the SI.
AYF member Garabed Chadoian is one of the Vice-Presidents of IUSY.
The ARF-D Women’s Group is a full member of the SIW (Socialist International Women). The youth organization of the ARF-D, the Armenian Youth Federation, is a full member of the IUSY (International Union of Socialist Youth), and of YES (Young European Socialists, former European Community Organization of Socialist Youth – ECOSY).
